Our Story
Who we are in a nutshell
The Story BEHIND
Mattison Farms
We find ourselves embedded in the most ideal climate for Macadamia production, between an Eastern Longitude of 30 and a Southern latitude of 31. Winter temperatures rarely drop below 10 degrees Celsius with peak summer temps rarely exceeding 28 degrees. This fosters the best growing conditions available for Macadamias globally and gives us the distinct advantage of potentially growing the best quality kernel and highest tonnage per hectare worldwide.
Our History
In 1989 I made the decision to sell my farm in the Midlands, KwaZulu-Natal and move to the South Coast, KwaZulu-Natal. I bought a small banana farm and later, bought the farm next door that had 17ha of Macadamia Nuts.
That was the start of our Macadamia journey.
After several years and hard work, I decided to concentrate on Macadamia nuts and expand. For several years I continued buying farms and planting macadamia nuts.
After my son, Richard Mattison, graduated from Lowveld Agricultural College, he came and started working with me in the farms. He later became my partner in the business, and we continued our expansion in Macadamia farming.
In 2015, we were given an award for best crackout in the world. In 2021 we were the second largest macadamia producer in South Africa, according to SAMAC.
We now have more than 700ha of planted nuts and produce over 1300 tons of dried nuts in shells. In 2023 we started exporting our own nuts and have the facility to sort, dry (down to 2%), and size our Macadamia nuts.
